ADDICTION

Alcohol dependent syndrome

    3 or more of the following have been present together at some time during the previous year:

1.       a strong desire or sense of compulsion to take the substance

2.       difficulties in controlling substance-taking behaviour

3.       a physiological withdrawal state

4.       Tolerance

5.       neglect of alternative pleasures or interests

6.       use despite clear evidence of harmful consequences

Treatment of ADS

Diazepam 10 mg tds for 2 days

                                                         Add 10mg

Diazepam 10 mg bd for 2 days           SOS   

Diazepam 10 mg HS for 2 days

Thiamine 100mg bd for 1 mth

Alcohol Related Disorders

1.       Alcohol withdrawal

a.       Seizure

b.       Delirium

2.       Alcohol induced psychosis

3.       Alcohol induced depression

4.       Alcohol induced anxiety
