The yellowish discoloration of skin sclera and other tissue by bilirubin is called jaundice.
Neonates may n't appears jaundice until bilirubin reaches a level of 4.6mg/dl(Normal serum bilirubin level<1.5mg/dl. It is an important problem in the 1st wks of life. High bilirubin levels may toxic to the developing CNS and may cause neurological impairment even an term newborn.
Physiological Jaundice
Physiological jaundice represent physiological immaturity of the neonates to handle increased bilirubin poroduction. Visiblejaundice usually appears b/n 24-72 hrs fo age may 24hrs 5-7 dys
Physical jaundice occurs 65% in term baby and 85% in preterm baby

  1.  TC
  2. DC
  3. ESR
  4. Bb%
  5. LFT
  6. RFT
  7. Bilirubin test
Treatment
  1. If dehydration the hydration therapy  I/V fluid is given
  2. Regular bilirubin checkup
  3. Photo therapy if need
  4. If any sign of encephalopathy refer to higher center 
  5. Antibiotic
    1. cefexime
  6. Laxative- lactose
  7. B.complex
